Tim, I've got a load bar that's got some brackets on it so you can "clip"
the front works of the bikes into it. That way you can travel with them
upright in the bed and not have to worry about tying them down/them sliding
around. I think it was about $45... Might want to look into that since you
do drive a truck...why not use it? As far as the hitch, you will probably
only need a class 2 or 3 depending on what you're gonna tow. I can tow my
16' aluminum bass boat with a class 2 hitch no problems. As far as brands,
I've used Reese and Draw-Tite with no problems whatsoever. They're one of
the best hitches out there. The draw-tite is painted really good and has
survived since 96 on the back of our ram with NO signs of it wanting to rust
anytime in the near future, plus all you see from the rear is the receiver
plug, the rest is hidden up under the bumper.
