It should but it won't necessarily show much difference on a stock gauge.
Besides, 80K is still young. :-) Had 143K on my '86 Laser turbo when I
sold it. Second owner now has 180K+ on it and all it's ever had for oil is
10w30.
I can understand your concern about viscosity in high heat conditions. I
used to be concerned as well but with the quality of motor oil these days
and with all the driving and racing I've done using factory recommended
viscosity without having a problem, I'd say my concerns were unfounded.
I've also had my used oil analyzed by Blackstone Labs and the reports are
perfectly normal. (and I never even told them the cars are raced) ;-)
