On a Gen III, I used a K&N 1503 on a F&B Stage 1 tb. The 1503 kit
has a 14" x 2.25" filter. I used to run with it on the track but now just
use it on the streets in the winter.

My current set-up consists of the ram air box from Air Inlet Systems
with a 14" x 2.83" K&N filter and dual 4" air ducts running up to each
side of the rad. For clearance reasons, the regular base from Air Inlet
needs to be bent so that the front part of box lies on the a/c bolt
at the front of the engine and a chrome top (flatter, not domed) from
Mr. Gasket is used.

I have not personally used it but a DMLer (not on list anymore) used
the Edelbrock 14" air cleaner with their drop base and 1/2" (I think) spacer
with the ram air box. AFAIK, it worked and had no clearance problems
on his R/T.

On the dyno., the following setups showed increasing hp/tq figures
with my mods:

   14 x 2.25 K&N -----> no air cleaner -----> ram air box
      [lowest] [highest]
