I like the protective tape option...I think I'll look around & see if I can find something that'll work.

Someday, I plan to get a sprayed-in bedliner, but not until I wear out my factory one some more. When I do that, I'll make sure to have them go over the rails.

Most spray-in linder places will quote you $50-$75 for the rails. Won't
interfere with your tonneau at all; you just might have to adjust your
latch a tad to compensate for the extra height on the rails.
