Finally! (somewhat long...)

Hey. DML!

Was gonna start ripping off the roof of my house today, so I can start
building our A-frame, but the weather was unco-operative (So what else is
new?!??!), so I attacked the DAKSY to-do list...First time I've hadda chance
to do anything other than oil/filter changes since the fall...
Anyway, decided to start with the Bilsteins for ProComp switch (fronts for
now), cuz of the lower shock bolt problem
which magically went away as soon as I bought the Bilsteins - go figure...
Anyway, hadda sawzall the ProComps out (tops) & I hadda biotch of a time
collapsing the Bilsteins to get em in, but they're done...
So, while she's up on the jackstands, I move to the next item, which started
about a week ago, a grinding/shuddering from the left front brake... Pulled
the caliper & Powerslot & the inboard slots are packed full of brake dust
(?) & the rotor itself is ridged near the outside diameter - as was the
Raybestos pad...Not having a spare powerslot handy, or a spare vehicle to
get this one turned, I just took my handgrinder & removed the high spots...I
gouged out the slots with a scewdriver & re-installed everything...Either
gotta find an automotive guy to face the PS or find a lathe (or a Blanchard
grinder) and do it myself...
A short test drive tells me that the Powerslot isn't too badly damaged, at
least for now... I didn't look for any rough road to see what the Bilsteins
feel like...
Onward to the RoadMaster! Backed the DAKSY up to the garage, jacked her up
with the big floor jack & lowered her onto the jackstands, removed the tires
& crawled under the driver side to loosen the leafspring U-bolt... CRUNCH -
CRASH! THE FREEKIN JACKSTAND ON THE OTHER SIDE BROKE! Down came the
passenger side onto the brake drum! My intestines nearly emptied!
KEEEEERYSTE! The casting with the ratchet teeth fractured. I immediately
jacked er back up, removed the OTHER jackstand & supported er on cinder
blocks & planks...never gonna trust a cast jackstand for as long as I live
..
Threw both of em into the dumpster I got for the removed shingles...
OK...back to the RoadMaster...Not bad - total install time was about 45
minutes per side - an hour-and-a-half total...I think somebody posted awhile
back that it was a three-hour job, but I already had lotsa tools out...Seems
like a quality product - I'll check it out when I go out on the twisty roads
around here & see how she feels...
Even got to install a new set of 3923s at .040"!
All-in-all, I got to spend about 6 quality hours with my DAK & feel a whole
lot better for it!
The TO-DO list is down to O2 sensors & a new Echlin brass cap & rotor & a
lube change in the punkins & xfer case, but the sun is supposed to appear
for a bit in the next two days & I'll gonna be workin my 51-year-ole butt
off in an attempt to get the peaked roof & the flat roof under it off, & get
at least the first floor joists, microlams & plywood on in the next 8
days...if I get to start the rafters, it'll be a bonus!
WHEW!
