My first welder was a Lincoln 230 amp AC machine. I haven't been able to
kill it in twenty five years.
It will burn through rust, paint and just about anything else. As you might
expect, it requires 240 VAC.
Two years ago, in order to work on thinner gauge material, I got a Lincoln
SP-230-PLUS. I love it.
It will take .025 and .030 wire with gas and with a change of gun liner, it
will take .035 flux core.
The smaller wire will do sheet metal and with .035 wire and at least 20 amps
at 120 volts, it will weld 3/16 inch material with one pass.
The unit weighs fifty pounds. With a ten pound spool of wire it is barely
portable for me without a small cart, and make sure any extension cord you
use is 12 gauge.

Subject: DML: begining welder
I would like to get myself a little welder, for some projects, nothing too
big but I don't want to buy something, get into it, and wish I had got
something
that could do more. Any suggestions for good brands that aren't too
expensive.
Thanks
Aaron
