You can change from 2WD to 4WD to 2WD while in motion. There are some limits
to it though (must be under 55) and going to 4LO requires a near-stop.

Fulltime means your 4WD can be activated all the time (and is, on the Dak -
IIRC, there's no 2WD option on the latest FT4WDs, but I could be wrong). Also
known as "all wheel drive", you have a viscous coupling between the front and
rear drives to allow a torque split (it's "all" wheel because not all wheels
will be driven equally, as in 4WD). Read on to see why this is important.

Part Time means that you cannot have 4WD engaged all the time. There is no
viscous coupling between front and rear so torque is split equally. If there
is no slippage on the surface you're driving or you take a really tight turn,
the drivetrain can bind up and this is bad, bad, bad.
