my mom drives a '96 taurus - the first year of the new design. she
bought it almost exactly 2 years ago, and has put 30k on it (it rolled
over 100k while we were test driving before purchase).
problems have included a leaky radiator, dead a/c compressor and either
a PS pump or rack - I forget which.
I don't think this is out of line for that old a car with that many
miles, and aside from a freakish 2-1 downshift that chirps the tires
when accelerating through a turn, it seems to me to be a pretty solid
car, and I wouldn't really hesitate to get another.
