Well, I only make one highway trip per year, 200 miles each way, with the AC
on about half the time and with about 400 pounds of gear in the bed. With
the MP R/T cam and stock intake manifold I had been getting 21+ mpg at 70
mph. Last year with a Hughes cam and M1 intake it was down to 20 mpg.
I'll be making the same trip in about 2 weeks but I expect the mileage to be
lower this year as I have ported heads and a non-lockup trans/converter this
time. I'll let you know how it turns out.
A few things to consider, beyond the basic tune-up stuff, are use of a
tonneau cover, keeping windows closed, proper tire inflation and front end
alignment, making sure no calipers or parking brakes are sticking, and
synthetic lubes wherever practical. (don't overfill anything. I run the
engine a 1/2 quart below full) I've also found over the years in several
of my vehicles that the MP PCM increased my mileage. (but it does require
premium fuel) Use the cruise control if you have it.
See my specs in the link below...
