You know it most likely comes down to reliable supply. Maybe Amsoil is a
superior product. But can they reliabley provide the product to the
manufacturing line in the quantities needed? This is a key factor, that
most likely plays a more important role than the cost per Qt. The cost of
the oil is neglegable compared to the cost of shutting down the line.
When I worked in the computer industry, we sourced hard drives, memory,
etc... from multiple vendors for this very reason. No single vendor could
guarantee us delivery of the volume we needed 100% of the time, so we
found 3 vendors who could guarantee a part of our total volume 100% of the
time. And it wasn't just about cost, we did want to deliver a quality
product to the customer.
