My spouse and I have solved some of the problem. We have bank accounts for
"Hers", "His" and "Thiers" money. If I want something not directly related
to household operation, or if she wants a new pair of shoes, we go directly
to our own accounts. No questions asked, no quilt. We've figured out what
money is extra after all the bills are paid and divide up the rest based on
percentage of income. We figure that into 'direct deposit' from our
employers and now we don't even think about it. It works great. We've
never once had a confrontation about money. We also have an understanding:
I don't ask her to go to many car shows, and she doesn't ask me to go to
musical theatre productions. She also understands that I need 'garage time'
for my old Dak and Daytona. Her Stratus is 'off-limits' for modification
however. =[
