When you say "softcover", I'm guessing you mean a tonneau cover, right? I
have a full size cross bed tool chest on my 98 and I have a soft tonneau
cover. Several of the manufactures are now making covers that fit and work
with a truck tool box. I got mine from Extang and I 'm really happy with
it. I think Access covers makes one too but I'm not positive. Good luck
