I feel your pain buddy! I have always been one of that particular
ilk... And it has burned me an occasion or two. Just keeps us
mortal...

Subject: DML: Back bumper loses to concrete pillar,0-1

Let`s just say I overdrove my backup lights. :>)

Here`s how it happened:

I decided to take my wife to one of the more upscale
restaurants in town last night (where you don`t have
to unwrap your hamburger first, and THEY bring the
ketchup.) And so we arrived at 5:41. Now,it may have
been my nerves that caused me to lose control of the
vehicle, because I knew this little jaunt was going to
be pricey. I normally like to spend about $3-8 for two
people,including the Cokes(tm),but I had specific
foreknowledge that this menu had items costing four or
five dollars PER PLATE!! So my mind was going to be
elsewhere,regardless. Well,the small parking area
directly in front of the restaurant has a large canopy
over it,which is not totally surprising, considering it
used to be a Chevron station, and there are several
large pillars supporting it in the middle. But the way
the spaces are marked, the pillars are located between
the cars lengthwise. So if a person pulled in and
happened to find the first two spaces closest to the
diner empty, with the rest of the lot full,it could
rationally be assumed that the circumstance would lend
itself to providing a certain degree of satisfaction
to the prospective patron. And if the first space
encountered happened to be marked with a blue
wheelchair, then theoretically it should be a simple
task to just pull forward past both spaces, then back
into the second space until the vehicle is positioned
squarely within the orange lines, yet not so far as to
come into abrupt contact with the concrete pillar
located to the immediate rear of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, reality and intention do not always
dovetail, and this is the point where my judgment
became skewed to some degree. I do remember my wife
looking at me,cautioning me about the pillar
behind, and my throwing the truck into reverse with a
confident "I got this" kind of attitude that would
very quickly fade into feelings of remorse and
shame, predicated only by a loud BANG and a jarring
sensation. Well,my heart fell to my a** as I realized
what had happened. I got out and looked, and sure
enough,a dimple. I had dimpled my bumper, bigger than
whale excretion. The only bright spot,if there is
one,is that you can hardly see the damage. It`s fairly
minor,but I know it`s there. And I know why it`s
there. It`s because I don`t listen! I need to grow
into a person that listens. Steve P.
