Yup...done it already.

Smaller ('97+ pulley) will spin the older models quicker, giving it a
quicker and slightly higher rate of charge.

Not on my Dakota but on another Mopar I have an alternator that I wish to
change the pulley to a smaller size to increase the output at low rpm's.
Has anyone done this and what can I expect? Burnt out bearings, etc...
