Ramps can definitely offer more of a sense of security but stay away from
the really cheap ones.

If they are simply stamped and formed without any braces welded on, they can
spread and break. Some may fail without being overloaded.

The pair I use are about 30 years old and have braces welded across the
bottom about an inch from the floor that tie the front and back together. My
Volkswagen tires (half a lifetime ago) would fit in the well at the top with
room to spare. When the tires reached the well, it was definitely noticeable
without looking. The Dakota tires are enough bigger in diameter and width
that placement needs to be very precise and I have to be very careful not to
drive right off the back. A spotter can be helpful also.
