Actually it was the front bumper. I have a grill guard. I'll haul it in
later this week and see what they say.

You say "standing on the bumper" so I assume that's the back bumper. I doubt
there is room on the front bumper for an adult to stand. If so then the
majority of movement down and up will be the rear suspension. If it's
anything but silent when moving and you're under warranty take it back and
don't accept anyone telling you that's "normal." This is of course true of
front suspension as well.
It can be any number of things: Rear spring leaf inserts, shackles and their
bushings, shocks and their bushings, stabilizer bar bushings
Front: Ball jts, tierod ends, upper & lower A-arm bushings, stabilizer bar
bushings
I just turned 50k mi on my 2000 and it's been absolutely silent for all 50k
mi
