Yes...it is a sign. Turning the knob "may" work temporarily, but it will
most likely fail.

In your experience (or anyone else's), since you replace these things very
often, is the condition that I'm experiencing a sign of impending failure?
If so I'll replace the switch and would appreciate a part number if you have
it. If not I'll just ride it out, as it's not too terribly annoying.
