Like Andy said, pitch the 10" round K&N and make up a home-brew cold-air
unit. Use PVC or ABS tubing and glue something up that will position a
cone-type oiled cotton gauze (K&N and similar) air filter to the
passenger side of the radiator. I don't have a Gen3, but in that area
there is supposedly a little rubber flap that you can remove to let cold
air from in front of the radiator flow into the engine compartment. You
could even build some ducting or shielding to force ONLY cold air into
the engine.

There's so much stuff that you could do to the engine to improve the
performance and mileage, but as Andy said, if you put your foot into it
all the time, your mileage will drop to less than it is currently.
