On a new engine...there's really no need to run a 15w40 oil. A simple 10w30
(or in colder climates - 5w30) is more than plenty. Remember, new engine =
closer tolerances. Run a thicker oil and you risk starvation in the bearing
surfaces in colder areas (let alone on cold startup).

I have been testing my oil lately, and have come up with some interesting results. Of the oil that I have had analyzed, Mobil1 10w30 has thus far came in last when compared to Mobil1 15w50, Delo400 15w40, and Rotella 15w40 (white bottle- DINO) I am currently running Mobil1 5w30, and plan to try Rotella 5w50 (blue bottle synthetic) next. So far, the best to worst is:
Mobil1 15w50 [plenty of additives, least wear, most life left]
Delo400 15w40 [short test due to weather, but almost as good as the M1 15w50 in all areas.]
Mobil1 10w30 [almost completely used up in 2500 miles, the most wear indicators, least amount of additives.]

Since comparing oil analysis between different trucks is essentially useless, I'll post the Blackstones when I am done with my little test, and you can judge for yourself. I don't anticipate the Mobil1 5w30 being any better than the 10w30, but if it's at least as good, then my oil of choice will be 5w or 10w -30 in the winter [2000 mile oil change interval] and Mobil1 15w50 in the summer [5000 mile oil change interval].

On a related note, does the AMSOIL dual filter kit for a Dakota take standard spin on filters, and how much do they cost? I saw the setup on Donalds truck and like it...
