I can't help you with the spline count, sorry. As far as installing an
LSD goes, you'll need to buy a limited slip carrier and you can re-use
your current gearset. Also, if you're planning on attempting the LSD
install yourself, have someone with a bunch of experience help you.
I've done it a few times, and it's not an extrordinarily difficult thing
to do, but there's lots of little nuances that you've got to get right.
The first time I did mine (in a ford 9") I ended up having to buy
another gearset, carrier, and bearings because I shimmed it incorrectly.
It lasted about 100 miles before it gave up. The second time was a
charm though, I checked everything in triplicate and had someone else
check everything after I was done and it came out fine.
