I really think marketing has a lot to do with that. If
they hadn't plastered all over everything that it had
a hemi and could blow most other cars off the road, I
don't think it would be that "cool". On a recent trip
out to Indianapolis, I saw a few and pointed them out
to a friend. And I said "Hey, theres that Hemi-powered
car, the Magnum."
They were smart to differentiate it in that respect,
otherwise people would just look at it like a station
wagon, which is actually what it is. And you notice
those two words have never been uttered/printed
anywhere with respect to the Magnum. ;^)
It never ceases to amaze me how marketing can make you
perceive a product. If I had walked into a dealership
and looked at it without seeing any ads, I would have
said, "Hey, they're bringing back staion wagons!" And
then I'm sure I would have been promptly pounced upon
by every salesman within earshot. :^)
