My wife is a Vice President of Human Resources for a world wide company. My
wife says she might consider calling back the previous employer and talking
it over with them to see why this is going on and see if she can get them to
tell her what she can do so that she does not have a negative reference.

your situation.
Contact your local states attourney or district attourney and ask them what
you should do. what they are doing should be considered criminal in my book.
