NOt unless they cov er their asses like you did. Very impressed with your
work. I got 2 new tires and free alignments out of the local Ford
stealership(owned by the same guy that owns the local Dodge stealership-no
alignment tech), after they ruined 2 brand new Courser MTs in 3k miles.

Subject: DML: Liberty Service Saga...

Just wanted to fill everyone in on my visit to question the 30k mile
service on our Jeep Liberty Renegade.

It was supposed to cost about $250, but the tech decided that I needed my
differential fluids changed and wound up costing me a total of $607 to pick
up the Jeep after hours on Friday night.

Thanks once again to Bernd for letting me know the amount that your
dealership charges for the Mopar, (sic), syn fluid for the differentials.

I drove to the Carmax in Norcross, GA and approached the service writer,
introduced myself and asked to speak with him and his Service Manager. We
all went into an office and I presented my case as to how the fluid should
not have needed to be changed until 60k miles. I showed him the factory
service manual and my owner's manual. I asked how the tech decided that I
needed the service, and all he could say that the tech likely went on the
appearance of the fluid.

I then showed him my bill which showed that I paid for 3 quarts of the fluid
for the front axle and 3 quarts for the rear axle. I asked them both if
this was correct. The price per quart was $22.78. I asked if that was
correct. They agreed that though it was high, it was correct. I then
showed them a copy of the page from the factory service manual for the Jeep
that shows that the front axle will hold 2.2 PINTS, and the rear axle holds
4.4 PINTS. So that is just over ONE quart for the front axle and TWO quarts
for the rear axle. I then asked, "where are the other three quarts that I
paid for?"

The SM got on the internet and looked up his Chrysler website, (or
something), and found that my numbers were exactly right. He then called
his parts dept on his speakerphone and asked them how much fluid for the
differentials for a Liberty, they said, "2-3 quarts"...he asked is that
total? They said they thought so....

Now, he was totally embarrassed...I asked if I really bought SIX quarts,
where is it?

He told me that my total service would be refunded....I asked him how many
Libertys had they serviced and done the same thing???? He told me that he
intended to find out and could not have been more apologetic. He took me to
the business office and they wrote me a check for $607.

I wonder if anyone that has been charged like this will be refunded? Wanna
bet NONE?
