How much play should there be in the front bearing on a 99 dakota
2WD? (The 99 has the hub/bearing assembly, and not a press-able
bearing race like before.)
Here's why i ask:
When i had the truck jacked up, i out of habit checked to see if the
wheel was loose.
It was loose a little bit, and the source was the wheel bearing.
The other side did not have any noticeable play. There was no "bad
bearing noise" on either side.
I installed a new hub/bearing ass. and it has play also.
When i shake the old hub, i can hear the bearings rattling around
a little, as if the grease is all gone. The new one did not do
that.
So, is the new one bad?!? Was i dumb to replace the old one?
As a side note to help others: the new part(aftermarket) didn't come
with a spindle nut, which is not reusable. (the dealer had a bunch
in stock, so i lucked out).
Thanks,
eric
