If you live in an area where extra traction is needed regularly, but
don't want the hassle of having to deal with switching in & out of 4WD
all the time (and remembering to do so), it's a nice option. I've left
my truck in 4WD and not realized until 25 miles down the road because
that knob is behind the steering wheel, and they removed the dash
indicator light that I had on my '99 when they went to the knob.
Luckily, no damage to the drivetrain on that one.
I would have liked to have it on my '03, but it was only available w/
the automatic transmission, and I wasn't interested in sacrificing
getting a manual transmission for it.
