   Due to my rather addled memory, I don't remember the source, but
I seem to recall hearing that u-joints can also tighten up when they
fail, in which case, lack of play might not necessarily mean that
the u-joints are good. So its probably one of those things where
if they are loose, then yep, they are probably bad, but if they are
tight, then you still haven't really learned anything about them. :-(
