We have a handheld Garmin eMap and a bracket to mount it to the dash for
driving. We also plug it in to the cigarette lighter for power, and added
a magnetic antenna that sits on the roof for better reception. It works
quite well as long as you don't mind having it stuck on the top of the
dash and being able to see the wires, instead of having everything flush
mounted and hidden inside.

I think they quit making the eMap, but I'm sure they replaced it with
something better. I haven't checked lately.
