Thank you, sir. I've had it fixed for... 3 weeks now, just haven't
bothered to boot the ol' laptop up and check in on the DML. Yeah, the
truck initially threw a code 54, I think, which is no cam signal. I
replaced the pickup plate under the distributor cap, as it seemed
logical. After some frustration at it not working, I thought, "heck,
let's just check whether the distibutor is even turning!" And... it
wasn't. Also, you couldn't turn the distributor shaft by hand. The
list of possible broken stuff was timing chain, broken cam, or that
gear. Luckily it was only the gear. Thankfully the cam is made of a
much harder metal than the gear it turns, too, as the teeth on the cam
looked perfectly fine.

I must say, it was a bit of a pleasure to work on the truck, as the only
other major auto repair I've done so far was the headgasket on my
sister's '99 DOHC Neon. That car's engine compartment is 10 lbs. of
crap in a 1 lbs. bag compared to the Dak. ;)
