in 98, the I-4's got the AX-15, the V6 (2WD) got the AX-15 also. the
V6(4WD) got the NV1500 (check your transmission Jon, it's probably the
1500). the V8's got the NV3500.

  Yep, all 318 Daks came with the NV3500. The AX-15 was put in
the 6 (and possibly 4) cylinder trucks. There were some other
transmissions used too; for example the 5 speed in my '90 V6 Dak
is an NV2500. But as far as I know, the only (manual) transmission
that was ever used behind the 318 in a Dakota was the NV3500.
