The most common problem you will hear about is the "killer dowel
pin" (basically a pin that can work itself free and drop down into
the gears at the front of the motor), but I believe this only applies
to the 12v motors; the 24v (which is what would be in an '99) doesn't
have that problem. You (or he) might want to check out places like
