Has anyone replaced the ball joints in a Jeep Liberty? I know there is a
safety recall on the lower ball joints. Supposedly a dealer performed the
safety recall on this liberty when the previous owner owned it. 30k miles
later the drivers side lower ball joint totally separated while going down
the road, luckily at a slow speed.
The balljoint was replaced by a local shop (not going to bother with the
dealer). The other side seems ok, but I want to replace it with a greasable
joint anyway.
I'm trying to determine if this is a do-it-yourself type job or not. I
haven't looked really closely to see what might be involved as this has all
occured in the last couple of days.
Anyone with a FSM for a liberty that could scan in the pages for ball
joint replacement? Any advise on doing it? It looks like Autozone loans
out a ball joint separator tool. Is this what I need to get it out? Will
it need to be pressed back in? Will the loaner tool do that? I know, lots
of questions.
The liberty is: 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7l 4WD
Sorry for the off-topic, but I know there are some Liberty owners here.
Thanks for any help.
