The adjustment on the torsion bar has absoultly no effect on the spring rate.
The spring rate is determined by the length of the bar, it's diameter and to a
small extent the material it's made from. The adjustment only effects the
pre-load on the bar which sets the ride height.

That being said, the geometry of the front suspension is designed such that
when it's at the designed ride height the changes from that point to full bump
and full extension are minimized. By lowering (or raising) the ride
dramatically from the base setting then aligining the front end you will now
have vary dramatic changes in geometry that can cause all kinds of odd or
potentally dangers handling quirks.
