It may look like it's price gouging but it's not. Just look at the
people just on this list who bought gas before the prices went up.... in
ANTICIPATION of higher prices. It's a self-fufilling prophecy when you
mention shortages on top of that. And as the news came in, speculation
increased.

The reserves were tapped to keep the refineries that weren't damaged
running since the pipelines were shut down. If a refiner runs out of
crude to refine, it shuts down. And when it shuts down it may take a
week or two to get it back online. So instead of further crimping the
supply, the reserves were tapped, are going through what pipelines are
operational, and the refineries are kept online

I'm not driving a quad cab or an insanely huge vehicle. I have two
vehicles that both get 22-24mpg's. Yeah, I could be driving something
more fuel efficient, but I want a truck that I feel safe in rather than
a sardene can. I want this and I know why the prices are where they are,
so I'm not complaining about the gas prices... THAT is where the pot
meets the kettle.
