This is exactly how my 2000 4.7L acts... BUT I HAVE NO MECHANICAL FAN.

My system is happy as a clam at normal driving at the normal 195ish. When I drive hard, or idle on a hot day the electric/AC/Aux fan kicks on automatically at about 220-225. I've also rigged the fog light switch to turn on the e-fan manually.

I don't know how to do it, but I'd check your mechanical fan. See if the clutch is still working. If it's dead in the water I have an extra I'm not using.

Question:
If i drive normally(no hot doogin,or hard throttle)the
temp guage doesnt go higher than 210F.If it in the
60's/70's,its about 195F.
But if its at 195-200F,and i jump on the throttle,it
takes a bit,and she reads about 220-225.Of course
after a short while it goes back to 210F or a tad
less.
I never had this with my 3.9L V6.Is this just because
of the extra heay put out by the 4.7??
Feedback Guys...
BTW,my Dakota kicks ass.Put down a 5.0 Liter Mustang
the other day.Definetly way more power than the ol' V6
