you can try a handheld GPS unit. mount it on the dash so that it can see as many as 5
or 6 satelites. ( use the "satelite info" page in the GPS to be sure you that you have,
at a minimum, 5 to 6 sats in view. this means higher accuracy. )

I think your error with this setup would be somewhere near +/- 1 % or approx. 1 MPH
