Since your truck is about 6 years old now I'd leave them on. If you peel
them off there's a really good chance you'll see outlines of them still on
there because the paint will have faded around them. You'll have to buff the
tailgate for sure if you peel them.

Peel them off with your fingernail, use goof off or goo gone or some sort of
adhesive remover for any glue that remains.
