Hey list (sorry, I'm cross-posting because I'm excited)
I drove home my "new" 94 Dakota today. It's a club cab truck with 318,
5spd, 4x4. Got it for a killer price because it was donated to the New
Hampshire SPCA (such a good price, the craigslist ad was posted
Tuesday, I saw it Wednesday, drove up to test drive & pay for it
Thursday afternoon, just before another guy came trying to buy it!)
It's a little beat up... rust on the fenders, doors, and bed, pretty
little dings and pealing paint, poorly cared-for interior... but it's
exactly what I need! My 89 Convertible is about to crap out (auto
trans dying) so the new engine/trans is going to save the day.
Gas mileage: On the drive home to CT from NH (with a detour through VT
to pick up another toy) I got 19.5 MPG... is that normal for for a
mag318 with mostly highway driving? I never saw that kind of mileage
with my '89 V6! The best I ever got was 18 and typically get 16. I
guess that's the magnum/SFI difference over premag/TBI, plus a little
help from the 5spd. This will be a nice all-around upgrade for the
Convertible. I'm quite happy.
Now I need to find time for the project. I'll be parting out and
selling/giving away during and after the project; don't hold your
breath, but let me know if you have requests. I'll post again when I'm
ready to pull the requests.
