If you pull out the cupholder, there's two slots on the top kinda under
the cushion (but visible). Take a flatblade screwdriver, place it in
the middle of the slots on top, push down on the screwdriver, and pull
the cupholder out. It's like a locking tab that prevents it from going
out all the way.

I hated those cupholders, I replaced mine SOOOO many times due to my
superhuman strength of interior destruction! Few weeks ago I finally
gave up, yanked them, and replaced them with this:

3 sturdy cupholders beats 2 flimsy ones!! :)

One of the screws fell out of the front "handle" and a spring clip fell off as well and it just it will be much easier to repair with the thing out and on the bench. Fortunately, knock wood, the rest of the truck is holding up fine!
