i replaced the heater hose that had the hole. i also repleced the return heater hose
since part of that hose was old.
i drained the radiator of what was remaining of the coolant and refilled with new
coolant.
it started right up. whatever made it stall when the coolant splashed everywhere has
now cleared up.
