As I own more than 1 non-runing vehicle that I've sunk way to much cash into
I won't comment on that as I'm not sure I'd be very helpfull. If you and
Christine do part, I will make one comment "Jon doesn't have a longbed yet,
does he?".
As far as the meet, and can relate to the practicality of driving so far
enouch that the truck needs an oil change both before leaving and after
returning. The practical side of me would say we should take the wifemobile
[02 Saturn coupe] instead of a 12 year old truck that has issues and will
probably get 1/3 or the mileage. That being said, I'm taking the Dakota
anyway. If I was all about practcality, I wouldn't have a lift and mud
tires. I'm still working on details of hotels and stops for the trip out
(hey, I've still got over two weeks until we need to be there), but our
first stop will be in Joliet, IL. If you don't mind spending the trip in
the back of a Gen 2 with a bird, and you can meet us there (or somewhere
along the way), you're welcome to ride along. That should significantly
reduce the fuel costs.
The current downside of this plan is that we're planning on taking I-70 back
home and stoping in Indy. I don't have any reservations anywhere for the
trip home yet. On the plus side, you've got nearly 3 weeks to figure out
how to get back.
I've had my Dak since it rolled of the line, and I've made a dismal showing
at the BBQ's. Only 1 in the 12 years I've owned the truck, and I do regret
not making it to more. There just always seem to be scheduling conflicts.
You've probably been looking forward to this as much as anyone, and it would
really suck to miss it. I'd vote for trying to figure out a way to make it
to the meet, and when you return you can focus on what you want to do, and
you won't have the "what if I'd gone" theme running through your mind and
distracting you.
