Aftger an encounter last week with a Deer at 45 mph, It looks like I have
another project on my hands. All I could do was hit the brakes and hope
that I still had clean shorts after the impact.
I bent up the bumper, brackets, cracked/shredded the plastic and
shattered both foglights. How I didn't trash the radiator, grill,or cause
even more damage I don't have a clue. The truck is still
driveable. I guess it could have been a lot worse.
I now have the opportunity to either replace with like parts or build
a new bumper, similar to this:

I can't see paying the $400+ for this one and can probably do it for
around $100 in steel. 11GA should be enough instead of 3/16 to keep some
of the weight down. I don't know if I want a winch mount or not as I
rarely take this truck offroad.
Build it in 'foamcore' or even plywood to make a pattern to cut with the
plasma and I should be set. I've made bumpers for other vehicles and they
turned out OK. Lets see if I can make this one look as good as the pics.
I guess I can even the truck by adjusting the torsion bars with the extra
weight.
If the heat will only let me get back in the shop.
