   Although I am not familiar with the 1997 radiator, I am
guessing that the drain is probably not a 90 degree valve.
You will probably need to keep unscrewing it until the coolant
actually starts to flow out of (or around) the valve itself.
It will probably be messy. :-)

   Sometimes there is a hole in the middle of the valve where
the coolant flows out (same as what is on an air compressor tank
for a drain), or here is what the 1996 drain valve/plug looks like:

  The direction to turn the valve to open it is usually
counter-clockwise.

  I hope that helps! If anyone with a GenIII knows that any of
the above is incorrect, please do feel free to jump in and correct
me. (Like I need to ask!) ;-)

   (Another option which may or may not be easier is to
disconnect the lower radiator hose.) Good luck with it!
