The numbers i have heard have not been nearly as high as your sources...
And actually, looking at www.fueleconomy.gov, the EPA's estimated hwy fuel
economy for the diesel Liberty is only 26mpg.
And quite frankly Andy, the EPA's estimates have always seemed to be high in
my experience.
For example, they said my 2000 Dak was estimated to get 19-20 hwy. On a
good day, it was around 15. That went up to about 17 after i added the
aftermarket intake.
So either your sources are exaggerating, or the owners got super lucky with
their vehicles...
