WOW! What a pain in the but! Definitely as you said about not being a
job for a armature! just thinking about the amount of work to get to it!
Starting at the top, Valve cover, air intake, wiring hoses around the
top end on the engine, Fan, fan shroud(sp?) drain cooling system, hoses
and so on and so on. This would not be a Saturday morning job under the
shade tree.
Thanks for the info.

It is behind the primary timing chain tensioner (crankshaft driven).
You
need to remove balancer, oil pan and pickup tube, timing chain cover,
chains
and tensioners, and then the bolts that secure it.
Once it's removed, measure the cover flatness, inner/outer rotor
thickness,
and the clearance in between and over the pump rotors. Lemme know what
they
come up with.
No, it's not an easy job and it's definitely not something I'd recommend
be
done by a person with minimal mechanical experience.

Exactly where is the oil pump located on the 4.7L? From looking at my
FSM, it doesn't say or show or I just missed it. But it sounds like its
on front end of the crank. If so, what route is taken to get to it?
Sounds like it take the remove of the water pump and timing chain
assemblies. If so what a pain in the ass!
I'm not have any issues it mine. It was brought up elsewhere.
