Wiggle the fan and see if the bearing in the water pump is going out. If
there's ANY movement at all, replace it. Timing chain, A/C, Alternator, and
idler/tensioner pulleys can also cause this noise.
For ease of diagnosis, remove the belt and spin each accessory separately -
see which one makes the noise.

I think my water pump is going out on my 1997 Dakota Sport. I hear a
rattling noise when accelerating, the same problem I had once before on a
1977 Camaro just before the water pump blew on it. Anyway, my air
conditioner is no longer cooling. My question is, would a faulty water pump
cause the problem with the a/c not cooling?
