Yeah, but what I'm saying is it applies to all magnums. One spec for the 96
and older and one for 97 and newer.

I just got done doing the plugs on my 98. It had a miss with about 14K on
the 5224's I put in for a smog test. I "thought" I did a good, slow job in
putting them in, but when I checked the gap on the old ones they ranged from
.039 to .046. I had originally set them as close to .040 as I could.

I just put in a set of AP5224's and gapped them as close to .042 as
possible. We'll see if the .002 makes any difference. This one is a 98 CC
Slt, 3.9L, 42RE and the stock 3.55 non-locker. It had 5224's in it when I
got it, and on the trip home it got a little over 20mpg. Since then it's
averaged about 18.9 overall, as low as about 17.9 in town and as much as
20.4 city and freeway. I know I'm close, I'll see if there's any difference
in the new gap, but overall, I'm damn satisfied with it. And that's with 150
on the clock. Biff

Rick, we could have a good 60 post discussion on the subject. And we might
not still get the right answer. And what's right for one person might not
fit everyone. For instance, I am on the road over 50% of my miles. And the
street in front of my house is about 23 feet above sea level. Warm, dry
climate.

You could be using the exact right combination for your area. If your's was
a 96 and below with Multi-port injection, 3923 or 3924 gapped at .035 is
exactly what a dealer would have put in for you.

The difference in 1997 is that CC changed to a hotter coil with about the
exact specs of an Accel 140021. This is what made it possible to go to .040
because the hotter spark needs the extra .005 to make use of the voltage.

I'm looking at both plugs right now. The plugs are identical except for a
slightly longer ceramic, about .030 inches. The big difference is the total
length beyond the thread. The tip of a 5224 extends about .080 to .090
further into the chamber. That in itself is a good argument waiting to
happen. Some people say that's cool, some say it doesn't do a damn thing and
they get all the power they need from the shorter plug.

Perhaps the Bernd can tell us if there was a change in the chamber design
between 1996 and 1997 that would have made it safer to use the longer plug.
That is if he's not still thing about "not going in as far being better." I
saw that, Bernd.

If you're running a 3923 gapped at .040 or .042, you're probably not hurting
your engine one bit. Biff

I think I have been running 3923s in my 98 5.2 for about three years

Oh well

3924(warmer) or 3923(cooler) for all pre-97 magnums. Supposed gap is .035,
but I have run a while at .040, no noticeable difference. On a GenI, I found
a real loss of performance above .038.

If you have a 97 up magnum(different coil), it's supposedly 5224 gapped at
.040. That's what I'm running right now. You wouldn't believe me if I told
you what kind of mileage I'm getting. I don't know if you can go to .045 on
these, but .042 should be just fine. Biff Byrum

Hmmmm..... I always used the 3923's. I think thats
what Bernd used to recommend. I gap mine at .035

Wanna chime in here Bernd?
