Yo Gary! We've missed ya! Glad you are doing okay. 170k on my 98 now. I
did put an a/c compressor on it today, but that was pretty easy really.

I am driving to Detroit on Thursday for the Dreamcruise.

Hey Bernd! Been a while since I've posted (busy with work and car
shows), and when I saw this post I thought I might bounce something off
ya that happened to me.

Few weeks ago I went to the stealer to get the trans fluid changed in
the 98. While they were drooling all over it they asked if it was the
original engine in there (I'm at 211,000 now). I said no, I had a
slightly used one put in. Then they asked if I changed the PCM, and I
reply no, still the original one.

He then goes into some speel about how after 150,000 miles the engine is
so outa factory specs that the PCM goes into a "braindead" mode where it
doesn't monitor much and just provides enough functions to run the
vehicle and it should have been replaced. I blew it off as just some BS
to get me to buy a new PCM, or so I thought up until tonight when I
changed the fuel rails and injectors for some chrome rails. Got
everything together, started it and it ran like crap... look on the
dash, no check engine light, NOTHING! Went back and found I didn't have
the #6 injector harness in all the way. Pushed it in all the way, fired
it up, runs great!

So have you heard of any "braindead" PCM's??
