Ubuntu is also nice as you can "practice" with the bootable CD and not worry
about having to reload your system or swap hard drives.

My opinion is that if you want to get it going quickly and *then*
dig into the guts of it, Ubuntu is a very good choice.

I'm pretty experienced with linux and the last switch i made was to
Ubuntu. When I want to dig, I dig. Otherwise it pretty much just
works. There is a learning curve, for sure.
