You're supposed to bleed the back ones first. Still would have broken them
off, though, I guess. Rust'll do that. Still sucks to have to tear the backs
apart to fix that, though. Lots of Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster or whatever
might have freed them up, especially if you let them baste in it for a couple
of days before starting to try to loosten them.
