Replacing motor mounts

So while my truck was laying on it's side, I noticed my motor mounts
are in terrible condition.

Both the FSM and Haynes tell me all I have to do is remove all the
through bolts, and lift the engine "slightly" (to clear the stud).
Installation is the reverse of removal.

Riiiight. I see no way in heck that big 'ol hunk of steel and mushy
rubber is going to come out without either the engine being lifted
another 5 inches (which means it's also time for a clutch job) or the
axle assy dropping about that same distance. Clearly I choose the
latter option... but is there any other trick?

I'm working on the passenger side right now... which looks to me like
the easier one. I'm only working around the disconnect housing. I'm
not excited to be wrestling with the pumpkin on the driver's side
next.

Darnitall I should have replaced them when I had the engine out!
